The municipal corporation of Mijas has distinguished dedication and bravery in public service. In a plenary session held on September 30, 2026, the Medal of Police Merit with blue distinguishing mark was unanimously approved for agent Pedro Tejón Jaime, acknowledging his over thirty-year career. Additionally, public commendations were granted to three Local Police officers and one citizen for outstanding actions that led to the apprehension of individuals attempting to evade authorities.
These recognitions will be formally presented on October 1st, coinciding with the celebration of the Local Police patron saint's day. The first deputy mayor and councilor for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas, emphasized the significance of these actions: “When we talk about police work, we talk about situations like these: pursuing a fleeing vehicle, intervening despite the risk, and successfully apprehending its occupants. That work deserves recognition and our support.”
The intervention by officer Fernando Arribas Moya and agents Rafael M. Castillo Crouquet and Noé Francisco Cheli Martín, which occurred on August 18th, was crucial. They pursued and intercepted a vehicle involved in an alleged snatch-and-grab robbery along the coast of Mijas. The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals and a collision with the police vehicle, in which officer Arribas Moya was injured. "There are risks that often go untold in the narrative of an arrest. In this case, one of our officers was injured while doing his job," stated Cuevas.
The plenary session also recognized the citizen collaboration of Daniel Martínez García, manager of an establishment in the Zoco Shopping Center. On September 9th, his swift action helped block the escape route and facilitate the arrest of a person fleeing from officers who had an active warrant for their imprisonment. "Daniel provided decisive assistance at that moment. His collaboration deserves public gratitude from Mijas," remarked the councilor.
The medal awarded to Pedro Tejón Jaime honors his extensive professional career. Cuevas highlighted that "a career like this is built by working for many years, serving citizens, and responding when needed. This medal recognizes that consistency and dedication." The proposal received unanimous support from all municipal groups, who expressed pride in the citizens and officers contributing to the safety of Mijas.
