“"We do not want to issue more fines or collect more money, but rather to achieve a cleaner Mijas. It is not fair that those who comply with the rules have to bear the consequences of those who dirty our streets. That is why we have strengthened sanctions against uncivil behavior. Our goal is for residents to notice a real improvement and for it to become less and less necessary to impose sanctions."

The Mijas City Council has definitively approved its new cleaning and waste collection ordinance, which toughens sanctions against uncivil behavior and updates the obligations of citizens and establishments.
The new regulation, approved on October 28, 2026, consolidates municipal provisions on cleaning and waste into a single text, aiming to improve the condition of streets, squares, and public spaces in the municipality.
Key measures include reinforced sanctions for illegal dumping, abandonment of furniture and belongings, and incorrect waste disposal. Fines start at 400 euros for minor infractions and can reach 3,000 euros for very serious cases. Failing to collect dog excrement is considered a serious offense, with penalties from 750 euros, potentially up to 1,500 euros in sensitive areas like children's parks.
The ordinance also sets obligations for shops and hospitality establishments regarding proper waste separation and maintaining cleanliness in their occupied areas, as well as for event organizers and construction companies. It regulates waste disposal times, furniture and belongings collection, and the use of clean points. The regulation will come into effect after completing legal procedures and being fully published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Malaga.
