The municipality of Mijas has been honored by Ecovidrio with the ‘Ecolólatras Andalucía’ recognition. This award celebrates the Andalusian municipalities most committed to the regional glass recycling and awareness campaign, with Mijas achieving the highest score in the entire province of Malaga this year.
The initiative, jointly organized by Ecovidrio, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP), saw the participation of 80 Andalusian municipalities and spurred over 150 actions focused on recycling, citizen engagement, and environmental care.
Eloy Belmonte, the Councilor for Street Cleaning, accepted the award and emphasized that "this prize represents recognition of the constant effort made in Mijas to continuously improve selective collection and foster responsible habits among residents, visitors, and hospitality professionals".
Belmonte highlighted the complexity of Mijas due to its size, three urban centers, and significant population increase, stating that "achieving these results is even more meritorious". He added that "obtaining the highest score in the province demonstrates the commitment in Mijas to keeping the municipality clean and improving together".
The councilor also expressed gratitude for "the daily collaboration of thousands of residents and hospitality professionals who recycle correctly and contribute to keeping Mijas cleaner". He noted that the Street Cleaning Department continues to develop awareness campaigns to achieve an increasingly sustainable municipality.
