The Mijas squad successfully overturned a five-point deficit from the first leg against Lima-Horta, defeating them convincingly by 76-46. This win guarantees their participation in the final phase, which will take place in Vigo on May 16th and 17th, with the ultimate goal of reaching the Liga Endesa.
Last season, the team also reached the final of this stage, losing to CAB Estepona, which made history as the first team from Malaga to play in the elite league. Now, Unicaja Mijas is just 80 minutes away from achieving this historic milestone for the province's basketball.
The return match against Lima-Horta was dominated by the home players from the outset. Despite some initial defensive adjustments, the team managed to overcome the five-point disadvantage by the end of the first quarter (22-16). Key performances from players like Estel Puiggros in direction, María Roters in attack, and the intimidation of Tayre Eke, along with the rebounding efforts of Elena Moreno and Celia García, and the three-pointers from Sofía Galerón, were crucial in building their lead.
The focus of Unicaja Mijas remained constant, as they maintained control of the game and extended their lead to over 20 points, reaching 30 in the final quarter, leaving no room for their opponents. The packed Martín Urbano stadium witnessed this display of superiority.
In the semifinals, Unicaja Mijas will face Osés Construcción Ardoi from Navarra next Saturday. This team, which finished fourth in the regular season, was defeated by Unicaja in their two previous encounters (55-68 in Zizur Mayor and 67-42 in Malaga). The other semifinal will be played between the host team Celta and Melilla.
