The Councilor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, presented the activity report for the Municipal Library Network during July and August 2026. A total of 15,779 visits were recorded, a figure practically stable compared to the same period last year (15,882 users). The Network currently has 39,999 members, after adding 207 new users in these two months.
1,229 new bibliographic items have been incorporated, a significant increase compared to the 338 from the same period in 2025. This rise is due to the addition of three new professionals who have strengthened management and cataloging tasks.
The Gloria Fuertes Library, which celebrated its first anniversary on July 29th, received 47,853 visitors in its first year. It has added 772 new members and recorded 25,781 loans, establishing itself as the library with the highest number of loans in the Municipal Network.

The Javier Castillo study room at the Elola Complex maintains special hours (9:00 AM to 12:00 AM) from August 20th to September 15th for the exam period.
For September and October, the Library Network has scheduled the Perita Cuentos Fuengirola Festival (September 16-19 at Parque del Sol) and the presentation of the VI Fuengirola Leyendo Award.
The ‘Fuengirola entre letras’ cycle will feature Mexican writer Brenda Navarro (September 30th) and Lucía Solla (October 1st). On October 26th, the V International Award for Illustrated Album ‘Ciudad de Fuengirola’ will be presented to Charo Pita and Marjorie Pourchet for Tira que tira, and the honorable mention to Txabi Arnal and Roger Olmos for Diez gatos aburridos.
The first edition of the Encounters around the illustrated album will also be held. Romero concluded by highlighting that the most intense months of the calendar are being approached with a comprehensive program for all audiences, aiming for libraries to continue being spaces for meeting, knowledge, culture, and participation.
