The event will take place this Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00 PM, at the Casa de la Cultura in Benalmádena. Admission will be free until full capacity is reached, offering a unique opportunity to delve into the work of one of the most prominent names in Spanish cinema.
Considered one of the most influential screenwriters in the country's cinematic history, Rafael Azcona left his mark on iconic films such as The Executioner, The National Shotgun, The Heifer, ¡Ay, Carmela!, Belle Époque, and The Girl of Your Dreams. Throughout his career, he received seven Goya Awards and thirteen nominations, solidifying his position as an essential figure in contemporary Spanish cinema.
The special session will include the screening of The Butterfly's Tongue, directed by José Luis Cuerda and starring Fernando Fernán Gómez. This film, based on stories by Manuel Rivas and adapted by Azcona himself, is a clear example of his narrative sensitivity and his ability to bring emotionally and socially charged stories to the screen.
Following the screening, an open discussion will be held with film critics and cultural disseminators Pablo Carrascosa and Santiago Losada. Both will offer an insight into the so-called “Azcona universe,” providing context, interpretive keys, and anecdotes about the Riojan screenwriter's work.
The organizers have highlighted that moving the start time of the screening to 7:00 PM aims to facilitate a more extensive and participatory debate with attendees, fostering an intimate atmosphere around the legacy of one of Spanish cinema's great storytellers.
