Demolition work on the Santa Fe Antonio Basilio stadium in Fuengirola has begun, marking the start of the Los Boliches Macrocomplex construction. This project, described as the most ambitious in the city's economic history, involves the creation of a megaparking with 1,070 spaces across three underground levels, expanding the sports venue's area to 14,500 square meters, and constructing new courthouses with independent entrances.
Mayor Ana Mula, accompanied by the councilors for Strategic Infrastructure and Sports, Rocío Arriaga and Julio Rodríguez, explained that the main entrance and grandstand are no longer standing. The complex demolition and debris removal tasks will continue for a few more days, followed by excavation for the underground parking.
The municipal investment for this project, covering project design and execution, amounts to 48,766,872 euros. The construction work will take place over the next 29 months, carried out by the temporary joint venture composed of Vialterra Infraestructuras S. A. and Urbasur Actividades y Servicios S. L.
The objective is to increase the sports facility's floor space by over 1,000 square meters, from the current slightly over 13,000 to nearly 14,500 as specified in the tender documents, incorporating part of Francisco Rivera ‘Paquirri’ street. The new underground parking, with over a thousand parking spaces, could be delivered and opened to the public before the rest of the projects are completed, according to improvements proposed by the awarded joint venture.
The project also includes a new football field with its orientation changed by 90 degrees, renovated pavilions for hockey and volleyball, a third multifunctional pavilion, and new complementary facilities such as a cafeteria, infirmary, and technical classrooms. On the building's rooftop, a 312.5 square meter recreational outdoor swimming pool will be located.
The complex will also house the city's new courthouses, consolidating services currently spread across different buildings. These facilities, spanning over 7,000 square meters, will have a separate entrance.
The mayor highlighted the project's ambition, calling it the largest investment in the city's history, made possible by the citizens' efforts and the efficient management of her team under the 'Modelo Fuengirola' initiative.
