“"The Lord of Compassion and Our Lady of Helplessness are «a living reflection of sacrifice, surrender, and solace amidst suffering» and a moment that embodies a profound theological and devotional meaning, following the tradition of the fourth and fifth stations of the Way of the Cross, as well as the fourth sorrow of the Virgin."

The Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of the Blood, Our Father Jesus Nazarene of Compassion, and Saint Isidore the Laborer of El Higuerón, in Córdoba, has approved a project for the creation of new mystery images depicting the encounter on the road to Calvary.
The project, unanimously approved in an extraordinary general chapter, involves the creation of a mystery scene that will accompany Our Father Jesus Nazarene of Compassion. This sculptural group will be the work of a Cordovan sculptor, known for his work in other brotherhoods across Andalusia.
Additionally, the brotherhood has given its approval to the Marian advocation of Nuestra Señora del Desamparo (Our Lady of Helplessness), which will soon be incorporated into the confraternity. The released sketch shows Christ and his Mother face to face on the Street of Bitterness, symbolizing a moment of infinite pain and compassion.
The mystery will be completed with the figures of Mary Magdalene and Saint John the Evangelist, forming a unified scene, and Simon of Cyrene, who will support the back of the cross. It is expected that the image of the Virgin will be the first to join in 2027, at which point the left arm of the Nazarene of Compassion will extend towards his Mother, instead of touching the cross as it does now.
The baroque-style ensemble aims to suggest a silent dialogue between Son and Mother in an attitude of helplessness, hence the chosen advocation. The Jesus Nazarene of Compassion is a dressed image, 1.76 meters tall, made of cedar wood, fully anatomized and polychromed in oil.
