The Córdoba City Council held its August plenary session this Thursday, advanced to the penultimate week of July to allow council members their holidays. The four-hour session was marked by a new regulation limiting the time for motions and questions.
One point of contention arose regarding the funding of music festivals. The governing team of the Partido Popular clashed with the opposition over the allocation of 1.4 million euros to the Córdoba Live festival. Despite criticism from Hacemos and PSOE, who argued it competed with their own Festival de la Guitarra, the PP's absolute majority approved the aid.
In another matter, final approval was given for a new aggregate mine within the municipal area. This operation, intended to address the shortage of construction materials, will be located next to the Army's Logistics Base and the Gran Capitán business park.
The future of summer cinemas was also a central topic. The PSOE spokesperson, Antonio Hurtado, reproached the PP for not exercising the right of first refusal on the property, valued at 800,000 euros, nor facilitating its purchase by the Regional Government (Junta). The mayor, José María Bellido, assured that the 2027 municipal budget project would demonstrate the continuity of this initiative.
Regarding rehabilitations, the Popular Party spokesperson, Miguel Ángel Torrico, confirmed that the execution of works on two houses will be included in next year's accounts. Furthermore, the tourism excellence plan announced by the mayor was mentioned, which includes Córdoba's adhesion to the Plan Turístico de Grandes Ciudades. The delegate for Tourism, Marian Aguilar, detailed that the plan is ready for tender before the end of the year, pending a decision from the Junta.
