The president of the Provincial Council of Córdoba, Salvador Fuentes, has inaugurated the new Waste Treatment Center in Dos Torres, facilities that represent an investment of 3.5 million euros and will enable the management of 10,000 tons of bio-waste annually.

The inaugural event was also attended by the delegate for Infrastructures, Sustainability, and Agriculture, Andrés Lorite, and the mayor of Dos Torres, Manuel Torres. The provincial president highlighted that the center signifies a move from "a transfer plant to a transformation plant," specifically designed for separately collected organic fraction, implying a "very important environmental implication."
Salvador Fuentes emphasized that this transformation is possible thanks to a significant investment, demonstrating the revitalization of the company Epremasa, which had seen no investment for decades. He noted that this initiative, along with water policies, is a priority for the provincial institution. He added that the Provincial Council's total investment in Epremasa will exceed 25 million euros this year.
The new actions will allow for the treatment of approximately 10,000 tons per year of bio-waste, from which 2,720 tons of compost with high agronomic value will be produced. The center will increase treatment and recycling capacity, advancing towards a circular economy and sustainability.
Andrés Lorite, delegate for Infrastructures, Sustainability, and Agriculture, stated that an important aspiration has been fulfilled by converting the facility, previously a transfer plant, into an organic fraction transformation plant. It will convert organic matter from the brown bin into compost, giving "new life to our waste."
Lorite stressed the importance of acting on circular economy principles and protecting the territory against climate change, highlighting the need for public awareness regarding source separation to achieve sustainability and urban solid waste treatment goals.
The mayor of Dos Torres, Manuel Torres, emphasized that these investments are significant for the municipality and the region. He recalled that the plant, which began operations in the 1980s, will now treat bio-waste and plastic packaging, responding to a local demand.
