The president of the Provincial Council of Córdoba, Salvador Fuentes, announced the approval of a Provincial Plan for waste management actions in Córdoba's municipalities for 2026, an initiative funded with 4.9 million euros to allow for the renewal of heavily worn equipment.
Fuentes, accompanied by the delegate for Infrastructure, Sustainability, and Agriculture and president of Epremasa, Andrés Lorite, and the CEO of Epremasa, Manuel Torres, detailed that this plan demonstrates the commitment to investment in the Provincial Company for Waste and Environment (Epremasa).
These investments will directly benefit the Montalbán Environmental Complex, an essential facility for waste treatment, handling, and compaction. The investment will enhance operational capacity, ensuring the continuity, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the service.
Fuentes emphasized the need to renew machinery that is old and requires increasing maintenance, thus posing a growing risk of breakdowns and reliability issues, to guarantee both service provision and facility safety.
This 4.9 million euros is in addition to the 10,870,000 euros invested since 2023, bringing the total allocated to Epremasa to 15,770,470 euros. The provincial president highlighted that further resources from the surplus will be incorporated, calling the investment historic and a testament to the council's commitment to the environment, circular economy, and sustainability.
For his part, delegate Andrés Lorite praised the service provided at the Montalbán Environmental Complex, which manages waste from 100% of the province, excluding the capital. The 4.9 million euros will fund the acquisition of two presses, a trommel, two optical sorters, a ballistic separator, a waste compactor, two loader shovels, and two multilift trucks.
Lorite also mentioned the ongoing construction of a new landfill area at these facilities, funded with 3.5 million euros, underscoring the Provincial Council's commitment to the circular economy and sustainability objectives set forth in Law 7/2022.
