The archaeological site of the castle of Aguilar de la Frontera and its surroundings will be transformed on July 24th and 25th to host the 26th 'Noche Blanca de la Media Luna' (White Night of the Half Moon). This large-scale cultural event offers a journey through historical scenes from the town's medieval period, with the participation of over a hundred volunteer residents.
Gabriel Duque, delegate for Culture at the Provincial Council of Córdoba, highlighted during the presentation that this is a firm commitment to "popular theater," being one of ten such initiatives in the province and a pioneer in the south alongside Benamejí.
Duque invited everyone to visit Aguilar during the event, explaining that the theater unfolds at the castle, the church of El Soterraño, and throughout the old town, "a very beautiful area."
The mayor of Aguilar, Francisca Herrador, described the performance as "one of the most unique proposals in our province's cultural calendar," emphasizing its consolidation after 26 editions and its ability to remain vibrant and renew itself annually.
Herrador stated that the project arises from the "need to disseminate the dense and interesting history" of Aguilar de la Frontera in a historically significant space that "needed to be revalued," and highlighted the importance of the hundred volunteers as "one of the great strengths."
The mayor added that "each edition offers something different, but always with the utmost respect for history." During the nights of July 24th and 25th, the castle "ceases to be a monument to once again become an inhabited place," its walls filling with "voices, music, characters, and scenes" that allow visitors to understand the past in a "close, exciting, and different way."
A distinctive feature is that the audience does not remain static but undertakes a tour through the representative spaces related to the narrative, offering a comprehensive cultural experience of one of the most "attractive and interesting" historical periods of Córdoba and Aguilar.
This year's edition focuses on one of the most brilliant periods of the castle and the Lordship of Aguilar, highlighting the influence of Don Alonso de Aguilar in Córdoba and Andalusia during the second half of the 15th century.
The event combines theater, music, history, and heritage across consecutive evening performances, aiming for audience immersion. It includes a final medieval music show and a gastronomic tasting evoking medieval flavors.
As a complementary activity, a medieval market with crafts, gastronomy, and workshops will be organized in the external area.
Three daily performances are scheduled for both July 24th and 25th at 10:00 PM, 10:30 PM, and 11:00 PM. On Friday, the 10 euro ticket will include an appetizer, while on Saturday, for 25 euros, a medieval dinner will be offered.
Tickets will be available starting Monday, July 13th at 12:00 PM at the tourist office, purchasable by card or bank transfer (by contacting 957 68 80 55 beforehand).
