The average retirement pension in the province of Seville stands at 1,490.90 euros per month, yet only 15 out of its 106 municipalities manage to surpass this figure, indicating notable economic and labor disparities.

The province of Seville exhibits a distinct division regarding average retirement pensions. Out of its 106 municipalities, only 15 exceed the provincial average of 1,490.90 euros per month, according to data from the National Institute of Social Security. This situation paints a picture of significantly higher amounts in the metropolitan area and Aljarafe, contrasting with the more modest pensions recorded in the Sierra Sur, Campiña, and Sierra Norte regions.
Tomares leads the ranking with the highest average pension in the province, reaching 2,047.06 euros. It is closely followed by other towns in the Aljarafe and the metropolitan surroundings, such as Castilleja de Guzmán (1,950.55 euros), Mairena del Aljarafe (1,909.22 euros), Espartinas (1,867.14 euros), and Gines (1,861.06 euros). The provincial capital, Seville, is also part of this select group with an average of 1,795.54 euros.
These municipalities concentrate populations with professional profiles linked to service sectors and skilled jobs, resulting in higher contribution bases. According to Juan Carlos Morán, a professor of Applied Economics at the University of Seville, many of these residents relocated to Aljarafe seeking better housing conditions, maintaining their residency after retirement. These workers and entrepreneurs, having contributed for decades based on high earnings, see those efforts reflected in their pension amounts.
At the opposite end, municipalities like Pruna record the lowest average pension, with 933.47 euros per month. Other towns with amounts below 1,000 euros include Martín de la Jara (934.69 euros) and Villanueva de San Juan (953.39 euros). These differences are partly explained by the historical labor structure of many rural areas, with a greater weight of agricultural contributions or activities with lower bases, as well as a higher presence of non-contributory pensions and self-employed individuals on minimum contribution bases.
Even medium-sized municipalities and major cities like Utrera (1,268.31 euros), Écija (1,160.12 euros), or Lora del Río (1,063.21 euros) fall below the provincial average. Major industrial hubs such as Alcalá de Guadaíra (1,476.02 euros) and Dos Hermanas (1,487.53 euros) also fail to surpass the provincial benchmark.
Nationally, the average retirement pension in Spain is 1,572 euros, exceeding Seville's provincial average by over 81 euros. This implies that only 12 municipalities in the province reach the Spanish average, while the majority fall below both the provincial and national references. The average gross income in the province of Seville was 27,697 euros in 2023, with only 14 municipalities surpassing this figure, showing significant differences compared to the municipalities with the highest pensions.
