The Andalusian Health Service (SAS) has presented its summer plan, which includes 41,639 new hires and an increase of 1,074 operational beds in Andalusian hospitals to cover healthcare demand during peak tourist months.

The Minister of Health, Presidency, and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, detailed the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) hiring plan for the summer months, to be activated between June and November. This plan includes 41,639 hires for medical, nursing, and administrative staff, representing a 14% increase compared to summer 2025 and an investment of 168 million euros, 24.4% more than the previous year.
This reinforcement will lead to an increase in hospital bed availability, reaching 12,774 operational beds, 1,074 more than in 2025. Additionally, 2,125 reserve beds will be maintained for immediate activation if needed, aiming for a responsive model to emergencies.
Sanz explained that the objective is to balance the increased summer demand, typical of an autonomous community with high tourist influx and local vacationers, with the holiday rest of healthcare professionals. The 2026 plan improves upon the hiring and investment figures from 2024 and 2025, when 36,500 contracts were activated with an investment of 144 million euros.
The SAS estimates exceeding 6.4 million healthcare acts between July and September, including over 85,000 surgical interventions, 3.19 million outpatient consultations, and more than 3.2 million diagnostic tests. To achieve this, 431 operating rooms will be available, 20 more than the previous year, ensuring 76% surgical capacity.
Medical staff hiring is up by 82.7% compared to 2025, with 1,993 contracts. Nursing staff, with 14,741 contracts, see an 11.6% growth, while healthcare technicians (TCAE) total 13,424 contracts. Management and Service staff will have 11,480 contracts, 848 more than the previous year.
Andalusia will consolidate a model for anticipating demand peaks, especially in tourist areas like Cádiz, Málaga, Almería, and Huelva, through updated specific protocols. Monitoring commissions will be established to assess the situation and reorganize emergency circuits and home care.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health will invest over 11 million euros in improving healthcare infrastructure during the summer, with 200 actions focused on accessibility, air conditioning, energy efficiency, and technological renovation.
