Following the recent Andalusian elections, the PP has decided to intervene in the local organization of Dos Hermanas, a city of 150,000 inhabitants with significant growth potential, particularly in the new Entrenúcleos neighborhood. The measure seeks to revitalize the party's presence in a socialist stronghold.
The internal crisis erupted on May 4th when the PP's board in Dos Hermanas, led by Carmen Espada, presented their resignations. The trigger was the appointment of José Veira, mayor of Los Molares and territorial deputy secretary of the PP of Seville, as electoral campaign coordinator for the municipality, a decision that caused discontent among local leaders.
The situation was provisionally managed to avoid publicizing the crisis during the campaign. After the elections, the Andalusian PP has opted for a more direct solution: a caretaker committee chaired by Ignacio Romaní. Romaní is joined by Pamela Hoyos, regional deputy secretary; Martín Torres, PP spokesperson in the Provincial Council; Iván Pestaña; and Ana Chocano, local spokesperson and until now a member of the Andalusian Parliament.
This intervention is part of a broader strategy by the Andalusian PP to strengthen its presence in key municipalities in the province of Seville. Coordinators have been appointed in other towns such as Alcalá de Guadaíra, where Manuel Pacheco will oversee local politics, and caretaker committees have been resolved in Espartinas and Marchena, with varying results.
PP sources highlight the strategic importance of Dos Hermanas, especially concerning the Provincial Council of Seville, an institution the party has never managed to govern. The objective is to leverage the city's demographic growth and the current political context to attempt to gain control.
The PP in Dos Hermanas is described as a "dormant" party, lacking "action and political pulse," unable to connect with citizens or weaken the socialist mayor, Francisco Rodríguez. The new party headquarters inaugurated in June 2024 in the town center is envisioned as a turning point for the party's breakthrough in the locality.
