The XLVI Joaquín el de la Paula Flamenco Festival returns to the Castle of Alcalá this Saturday, September 26th, at 9 PM, after a 16-year absence, placing the municipality at the forefront of flamenco once again. This year's edition recaptures part of the festival's essence by being held in one of the city's most important and emblematic heritage sites.
This year, the festival pays tribute to the Alcalá-born dancer Javier Barón, a prominent figure in contemporary flamenco dance, recognized for his highly prestigious artistic career. The delegate for Identity and head of Culture, Heritage, and Tourism, Christopher Rivas, emphasized that "he is an essential figure in contemporary flamenco dance, with an artistic career of enormous prestige both within and outside Andalusia, and with a way of understanding flamenco from its roots, elegance, and respect for tradition. We want to acknowledge his contributions to flamenco over so many years. Recognizing Javier Barón is also recognizing the value of those who have dedicated their lives to enriching this art through effort, talent, and authenticity."
Alongside Javier Barón, the lineup features renowned artists such as David Palomar, Lela Soto, and Ezequiel Benítez on vocals, and Rubén Martínez, Paco León, and Rubén Lara on guitar. "We continue to make Alcalá a city where flamenco is lived, felt, and shared, keeping alive a tradition that is part of our identity and our history," stated the delegate.
Tickets for the festival are now on sale through the City Council's ticketing website for 12 euros.
