Coria del Río is preparing to relive its historic connection with Japan this summer with a new edition of the cultural-tourist route “The Samurai’s Journey”. This experience, which recreates the arrival of the samurai Hasekura Tsunenaga in 1614 at the head of the Keichō Embassy, has established itself as one of the most unique and sought-after events in the province of Seville.
Since its inception in 2013, over 16,000 people have participated in this night-time route, highlighting the cultural and tourist impact of Hasekura Tsunenaga's legacy. The story of this encounter has shaped the identity of Coria del Río, a legacy that endures today with hundreds of residents still bearing the surname Japón.
The official itinerary includes a barge trip on the Guadalquivir River, recreating the original landing; a visit to the Monument to Hasekura Tsunenaga, a bronze statue donated by the Japanese delegation; the Hermitage of San Juan Bautista, declared a Site of Cultural Interest; an interpretive tour through the historic center and the Coria del Río Town Hall, where the flag of Japan flies; and a gastronomic tasting of local products.
This summer's edition will feature five dates: July 3, 10, and 17, and August 7 and 14. All routes will begin at 8:45 PM, departing from the Quiosco de la Música. Tickets are now available on the Giglon platform.
“The Samurai’s Journey” has become a benchmark for tourist quality and historical dissemination, positioning Coria del Río as one of the most original cultural destinations in Andalusia and reinforcing its international projection thanks to its close link with Japan.
