The city of Almería will host, for the first time, an event of this magnitude organized by the Spanish Association of Medieval Archaeology, with the collaboration of the Museums Area of the Almería City Council. The congress aims to foster exchange among researchers and professionals dedicated to the study, conservation, and dissemination of the medieval Iberian archaeological heritage.
The Councillor for Culture, Joaquín Pérez de la Blanca, highlighted that during the four days of the congress, participants will be able to enjoy the city's cultural, museum, gastronomic, and leisure offerings. The head of the Municipal Museums Network of Almería added that the congress will serve as an open forum for the diverse approaches and methodologies characterizing current archaeological research.
The director of the Barrio Andalusí Archaeological Site, Belén Alemán, expressed gratitude for the choice of their venue for this eighth edition, emphasizing that it will be the first congress of its kind held in the autonomous community.
The program, commencing on Wednesday, September 30, at 10:30 AM, will feature a wide range of lectures, debates, and poster sessions on various lines of medieval archaeological research. The thematic blocks include Medieval Archaeology in Almería, Methods and techniques for research and dissemination, Minorities and identities in the Middle Ages, and Latest discoveries or recent findings.
The congress will conclude on Saturday, October 3, with a reporting session, debate, and closing ceremony. The Museums Area of the Almería City Council views this event as an opportunity to highlight the city's archaeological heritage and promote its knowledge and dissemination, fostering scientific exchange on the Middle Ages and the historical legacy of Almería and its territory.
