The University of Almería (UAL) is organizing an outreach lecture about the ExoMars Rosalind Franklin mission, focused on Mars exploration. The conference will be delivered in English with consecutive interpretation by UAL Professor José María Calaforra, from the Research Group on Water Resources and Environmental Geology.
The main speaker will be Dr. Susanne P. Schwenzer, Professor of Planetary Mineralogy at The Open University (United Kingdom) and a member of NASA's Curiosity mission on Mars. Schwenzer has also participated in ESA rover tests and works on planetary operations training.
The lecture will explore Mars exploration using rovers, reviewing previous missions and focusing on ExoMars Rosalind Franklin. This project is scheduled for launch in 2028 and arrival on the Red Planet in 2030, aiming to search for evidence of past or present life.
Additionally, the preparation for the mission's operations will be detailed. During September, an international team will train in Turin while controlling a rover in the Tabernas Desert (Almería), simulating the conditions of a real mission.
The event will take place on Monday at 7:00 PM at the Casa de las Mariposas, in the Outreach Classroom, organized by the UAL's Secretariat of Culture, Vice-Rectorate of Culture and Society, along with The Open University, AstrobiologyOU, and Cajamar.
