The Port Authority of Almería (APA) has presented positive data for the first half of the year, with a 10.3% growth in port traffic at the ports of Almería and Carboneras compared to the same period in 2025. This increase positions the APA as the fifth port authority in the national system with the highest growth.
The main driver of this increase has been the movement of gypsum in both ports, totaling 1.8 million tons, representing a 23.6% rise. The president of the APA, Rosario Soto, described the balance as "very positive" and expressed hope that investments in port facilities and infrastructure will lead to greater traffic increases in the medium term, benefiting the province.
In terms of exports, the Port Authority of Almería ranks seventh nationally, exceeding 2 million tons of exported merchandise, an increase of 17% compared to the first half of 2025. It leads in foreign shipments of solid bulk, with 1.8 million tons, a 20.3% increase.
The proximity of the APA ports to the main gypsum quarries, which account for 70% of national production and are European leaders due to their high purity and international demand, provides a competitive advantage. Rosario Soto highlighted that this geostrategic location, along with investments in works such as the expansion of the Pechina Quay and the revitalization of the former Endesa terminal in Carboneras, generates optimism for future growth in solid bulk traffic, particularly gypsum.
