The 'Álvarez de Sotomayor' Base and CMyT in Viator was the setting for the official visit of the Spanish Chief of Staff of the Defense (JEMAD) and his Italian counterpart. The main objective of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of experiences between the armed forces of both allied countries.
The day began with an official reception and an honor guard, followed by an institutional meeting. Subsequently, the high-ranking officials attended a presentation in the 'Vizconde de Eza' hall, where the new capabilities being developed by the La Legión Brigade as an experimental brigade of the Spanish Army were detailed.
The visit concluded with a static and dynamic exhibition at the CMyT 'Álvarez de Sotomayor'. This demonstration focused on showcasing the unit's procedures and capabilities in a tactical scenario, including the use of advanced systems such as UAS ISR (Unmanned Aircraft Systems for reconnaissance), UAS FPV (Unmanned Aircraft Systems for combat), and C-UAS (Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems), as well as vehicles like the VAMTAC PC (High Mobility Tactical Command Post Vehicle) and the UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) for casualty evacuation and EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) capabilities, and the VCI 8x8 (Infantry Combat Vehicle).
These types of meetings are essential for Spain and Italy to jointly and effectively address current challenges in defense and security, promoting interoperability and mutual understanding of their respective military capabilities.
