The mayor of El Ejido, Julia Ibáñez, and the president of the Provincial Council of Almería, José Antonio García Alcaina, inaugurated the new sports and multi-purpose facilities in Ejido Norte this morning. This building is the outcome of a collaboration agreement between the El Ejido City Council and the Provincial Council of Almería, with a budget exceeding 2.6 million euros.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by government councilors, members of the Municipal Corporation, provincial deputies, the parish priest Don Alexander Estupiñán, presidents of Local Boards, local sports clubs, representatives of the associative fabric of Ejido Norte, educational staff, and representatives of the construction company Trafisa. The event included a ribbon-cutting, the unveiling of a plaque, and a tour of the facilities, along with an exhibition by the Club Indalrítmica Murgis.
Mayor Julia Ibáñez highlighted that the new pavilion addresses a real need in the municipality, expanding and improving the network of sports facilities. She described it as a modern and functional infrastructure, ready for daily use by clubs, athletes, young people, seniors, and families. She particularly thanked the Provincial Council of Almería and its president for their collaboration, emphasizing it as an example of what can be achieved when administrations work together for the common good.
For his part, José Antonio García Alcaina stated that this new sports facility will primarily benefit the children of the Municipal Sports Schools. He noted that it meets the needs of a municipality with continuous population growth, promoting physical activity in top-tier facilities. He recalled the fluid institutional collaboration that has materialized in other projects, such as the future Almerimar Sports Complex, and reaffirmed the Council's commitment as an ally to municipalities in improving infrastructure and services.
The mayor recalled that Ejido Norte currently has 23,600 residents and that growth must be accompanied by a high quality of life, in which sport plays a fundamental role. The new Multi-purpose Center and Sports Pavilion have a built area of 2,397 square meters spread over two floors, on a plot of more than 3,600 square meters.
The first floor houses the main entrance, an information point, a multi-purpose room, changing rooms, adapted restrooms, an administrative office, stairs, and an elevator. The upper floor consists of three multi-purpose rooms for directed activities. The second volume is dedicated to the sports court, nearly 1,100 m², with changing rooms, restrooms, storage, and a seating area for almost 200 people. The building incorporates longitudinal openings and skylights to optimize natural lighting and reduce electricity consumption.
This versatile and multifunctional space is equipped to host sports, recreational, social, and cultural activities. The mayor highlighted that over 5,000 people participate in the municipal sports program, emphasizing its importance as a tool for unity, coexistence, integration, and social cohesion. She announced that the new Almerimar Pavilion will soon become a reality, another necessary infrastructure for a growing area.
