The contracting board has awarded the tender to the company Zima Desarrollos Integrales. The contract, which will commence after the signing of the site survey report, has an estimated duration of one year for the comprehensive renovation and modernization of the property, which dates back to 1910.
The project involves a complete architectural and functional renovation, including the replacement of installation networks, structural reinforcements, and the adaptation of interior spaces to current technical regulations. The work will connect the building's four floors, which are currently disconnected at the ground level. The facade, the main staircase, and two representative rooms on the first floor, all featuring characteristics of the building's era, will be preserved, as will the original ceilings. The neoclassical facade, a BIC (Asset of Cultural Interest), was already rehabilitated in 2025 and will not be part of this intervention.
The ground floor will be transformed into an open-plan space housing an exhibition area and a future University of Almería shop. The first floor will feature an institutional office, a boardroom, a press room, an interview room, and a hologram room designed to connect with a room within the campus's governance building.
The second floor will accommodate a large lecture hall, a telecommunications room for videoconferencing, and an audiovisual room. Finally, the third and top floor is planned to include a leisure area with direct access to the terrace, offering views of the Paseo de Almería.
While the physical remodeling of the building's spaces is defined in the tendered project, the future uses are still being determined through a participatory process that will consider suggestions from both the university community and representatives of Almería's social and economic fabric. The aim is to transform this property, leased by the State Administration for 30 years, into a reference point for the University of Almería in the city center and a link between the university community and the people of Almería.
