The ‘Sobre las mujeres’ collection, published by the University of Almería Press (EDUAL) and directed by professor Isabel Navas, has obtained the CEA-APQ Academic Publishing Quality Seal. This distinction, jointly awarded by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), and the Union of Spanish University Presses (UNE), certifies compliance with the highest standards of informational quality, rigor in peer review, editorial transparency, and scientific prestige in the field of gender and women's studies.
This achievement provides a significant boost to the visibility of the institution's academic research. As highlighted by EDUAL's director, Miguel Gallego, the recognition “multiplies the impact of the collection,” which is aimed at “studies in feminist criticism, issues related to law, justice, society, and women's rights,” as well as focusing on humanities areas centered on “female writers and intellectuals who have been more silenced than men throughout the cultural history of Spain and Europe”.
The director of EDUAL, Miguel Gallego, notes that this seal “recognizes the work of the editorial team, led by José Berenguel” after a demanding accreditation process. The seal is evaluated every five years, requiring academic collections to meet challenging criteria.
The collection's director, Isabel Navas, a professor of Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature, expressed her satisfaction with the recognition of the work done since 2019. She thanked EDUAL, its director Miguel Gallego Roca, publication managers, especially José Berenguel Sánchez, and the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and Society, represented by María del Mar Ruiz. Navas believes the seal positions the collection among the most prestigious university editorial collections.
The ‘Sobre las Mujeres’ collection publishes original works of proven quality with a feminist perspective, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in feminist and gender studies. Its multidisciplinary nature promotes the dissemination of research on gender, feminist theory and criticism, and the history of feminism, among other areas.
To date, works have been published on the presence of women in the Revista de Occidente, the critical and essayistic production of María Teresa León, the journalistic work of Elvira Lindo, the imagery of women in Joaquín Sabina's songbook, and digital literature written by women in the Hispanic sphere.
The collection's scientific committee includes specialists such as Amelia Valcárcel (Philosophy), Cándida Martínez López (Ancient History), Flora de Pablo (Medicine), Catalina Lara (Biochemistry), Josefa Masegosa (Astrophysics), Patrizia Botta, Jo Labanyi, Diana Sorensen, and Brad Epps (Spanish Literature), from universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, New York, La Sapienza of Rome, Granada, Seville, and the CSIC.
The collection adheres to the quality requirements set by evaluation agencies, submitting proposals to external reviewers. The CEA-APQ Colecciones Seal accredits editorial scientific quality in four areas: informational quality, editorial policy, editorial processes, and collection reputation and prestige.
