On Saturday, October 3, at 12:00 PM, a Eucharist will be celebrated in honor of the patron saint in the Plaza de la Constitución. The Bishop of Guadix will attend the event. During the ceremony, the City Council will officially name San Francisco de Asís as honorary and perpetual mayor, with the symbolic handover of the mayoral staff.
This agreement was unanimously approved by the municipal council on September 23, 2026. The local administration's secretary-controller, Anna Martín-Aragón Baudel, certified the resolution, which acknowledges the popular devotion to the patron saint and the values he represents.
The proposal, presented by the President, highlights the deep devotion of the people of Ferreira for San Francisco de Asís, as well as the values of effort, sacrifice, and love for one's neighbor that he embodies. The request was submitted by Francisco Jesús Aranda, president of the Association María Santísima de la Cabeza y San Francisco de Asís.
The council unanimously approved the appointment, which will take place during a liturgical ceremony at the patron saint festivities. The agreement will be communicated to the Diocese of Guadix and to Mr. D. Francisco Jesús Orozco Mengíbar, its highest representative. The local parish priest, D. José Manuel Suarez, has also been invited.
