The company Emo Ecilimp has been awarded the contract for the intervention, which aims to completely renew the urban environment and improve the street's accessibility. Work is scheduled to begin on August 15th, with an execution period of four and a half months.
The mayor of Écija, Silvia Heredia, expressed her satisfaction with the start of this long-awaited project, highlighting the incorporation of trees to create shaded areas and rest benches. "Calle Mendoza is one of our fundamental arteries and the pavement was very deteriorated by constant traffic," Heredia stated, adding that this addresses a clear citizen demand to facilitate pedestrian transit towards areas like the market or the Alcarrachela neighborhood.
For his part, Ángel Peña, delegate for Urban Planning, thanked the management and the effort of the technical teams and the Contracting department for their agility in the bidding and awarding process, allowing the improvements to be executed on time.
The project will be divided into two phases. The first section, between Calle La Victoria and Calle Albertos, will feature two rows of trees on both sides and rest benches. The second section, from Calle Albertos to Puerta Osuna, being narrower, will have one row of trees. In both sections, parking spaces will be maintained, and basic infrastructure for drinking water, sanitation, and public lighting will be completely renewed.
