The City Council of Écija, through its Tourism Delegation, has unveiled four projects to be integrated into the new Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, titled “Digital Reality at the Benamejí Palace and other Cultural Interest Centers”. These initiatives, already underway, represent an investment exceeding 53,000 euros, with the majority allocated to the Municipal Historical Museum.
The Delegate for Tourism, Laura Hurtado, along with the Director of the Municipal Historical Museum, Antonio Fernández Ugalde, detailed the actions. The first project involves the acquisition of digital equipment, including large-format screens, hardware, and a sound system, budgeted at over 14,000 euros, to enhance visitor information.
The second project, considered highly engaging, is the virtual recreation of a Roman domus. This initiative is based on archaeological remains found at Miguel de Cervantes 35 street and will feature a mosaic designed by Italian archaeologist Irene Loschi and her team. Visitors will be able to virtually explore this Roman house and learn about the lifestyle of the era in the coming weeks.
The third funded initiative focuses on the sculpture of the Wounded Amazon. An augmented reality application will be implemented to recreate the original polychromy of the artwork. Through a QR code, users can download a 3D digital model to visualize the Wounded Amazon as it was originally conceived, as explained by the Museum Director.
Finally, the fourth project addresses the digitization of the museum's documentation and archive, standardizing them into a system called Domus.
