The Councilor for Sports of the Baza City Council, José Antonio Valdivieso, presented on the morning of Wednesday, August 12, a replica of the Lady of Baza to handball player Daniela Ortega Corral. This recognition is awarded for her successes and sporting career.
The young athlete, who trained in Baza, was proclaimed Champion of Spain in Beach Handball this summer as part of the Andalusian U15 Team. Ortega is considered one of the great prospects in national handball, excelling as a left-back.
Her career has included call-ups to the Granada U15 Team and subsequently the Andalusian Team, with whom she achieved the runner-up position in the Spanish Championship in 2025 and fifth place in 2026. Furthermore, she has been called up twice to the Spanish National Team for the 2012-2013 Generation, with an upcoming training camp scheduled from September 4 to 11 at the CAR of Sierra Nevada.
“"It is a source of pride for us to have athletes of this caliber with such a promising future ahead. Congratulations, Daniela. We encourage you to keep working hard and not to falter in this difficult but exciting world of sports. You are an example that Baza continues to be a privileged place for sports, and from the City Council, we will continue to make it possible."
