The headquarters of the association “Alcrebite”, which brings together families of people with Alzheimer's and other dementias, hosted the commemoration of World Alzheimer's Day on September 21st. The event was attended by the mayor of Baza, Pedro J. Ramos, accompanied by the Councilor for Social Welfare, Priscila Martínez, and other members of the municipal corporation.
The president of “Alcrebite”, Denis de la Torre, led the event and read the collective's manifesto, under the slogan “No is no longer an answer”. This message underscores the rejection of slow research and the lack of person-centered care, demanding urgent responses to the needs of those living closely with the disease.
Mayor Pedro J. Ramos expressed his full support for the work of “Alcrebite”, highlighting its importance in the city and the region. He agreed with the association on the urgency of action, stating: “Alzheimer's doesn't wait, so we must listen and act as soon as possible, an effort in which you will always have the City Council by your side”.
During the event, the III Solidarity Festival, organized by “Alcrebite” to celebrate its twentieth anniversary, was announced. The cultural and artistic gala will take place on October 16th at 7:00 PM in the Dengra theater, with tickets costing 10 euros and a 'fila 0' (row 0) option for donations.

The manifesto emphasized the loss of time, memories, identity, and life that the disease entails. It highlighted the added difficulty of living in regions like Baza and Huéscar, where geographical dispersion and a scarcity of specialists complicate access to care and therapeutic opportunities.
Equity in care was demanded, ensuring that the right to receive quality treatment should not depend on the place of residence. The manifesto criticized the administrative slowness in funding new treatments, noting that in Spain the average time to finance a medication is around 400 days, and for new Alzheimer's treatments, over 525 days are already awaited.

Under CEAFA's slogan for 2026, several demands were made: “YES, I WANT TO DECIDE ABOUT MY LIFE”, “YES, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CHOOSE”, “YES, I WANT TO LIVE WHERE I LIVE”, “YES, I WANT A PREPARED SYSTEM”, and “YES, I WANT SPAIN NOT TO BE LATE”. Immediate public funding for treatments was called for, so that Alzheimer's does not become an economic or territorial barrier.
AFA Alcrebite, which supports over 500 users and 1,500 family members in the regions, called on administrations to translate strategies into proximity services and real support in the homes of Baza and its surrounding areas, reminding that behind every diagnosis is a human being and a family deserving of dignified accompaniment.
