The tenth excavation campaign at the Baza 1 paleontological site, situated in Cuesta del Francés, began on the morning of Monday, September 21st, and will extend until October 11th. The participation of 28 individuals is expected in these works, led by paleontologists Bienvenido Martínez, Sergio Ros, and Antoni Canals.
The initial days have focused on a significant expansion of the excavation cut, particularly in the southwestern sector, with the aim of accessing grid squares in the lower levels, which are very rich in fossils.
“"We encourage all residents who wish to visit the site, either individually or in groups, to simply come up and see it. This is a heritage that belongs to everyone and that we should all know."
The mayor of Baza, Pedro J. Ramos, accompanied by the councilors for Culture, José Gabriel López, and Heritage, Mª Carmen López, visited the site to greet the team and wish them luck in their explorations. Visits from several educational centers and associations are anticipated, as the site is considered a heritage for all.
