The vessels, formerly known as TBZ14 and TBZ15 and with a final destination of Libya, have been renamed Torgo I and Torgo II. They had been docked at the Port of Algeciras since September 2025, after being intercepted aboard the merchant vessel Lila Mumbai.
The local company Logistika 360 was responsible for the launching of the two units, which will now become part of Spain's maritime surveillance resources. These patrol boats, approximately 38 meters in length, are designed to reach high speeds and conduct pursuit operations at sea.
The origin of these vessels dates back to an operation on August 27, 2025, when the Liberian-flagged merchant ship Lila Mumbai was intercepted in the waters of the Strait of Gibraltar. It was carrying a cargo of boats destined for Benghazi (Libya), as part of the international embargo decreed by the United Nations.
In total, ten naval units were found aboard the Lila Mumbai, including the two largest patrol boats, two landing craft, and six smaller patrol boats. Some of them bore the acronym TBZ, linked to a Libyan armed group.
After the necessary refitting work, Customs has assigned the new Torgo I and Torgo II to strategic areas. The initial intention was to deploy them to the Canary Islands and Galicia, both considered sensitive points on maritime drug trafficking routes, thereby reinforcing the SVA's presence in the fight against maritime drug trafficking.
