The Montilla City Council has presented the 4th Children's Harvest, organized by Cooperativa La Unión, which will take place next Saturday, August 29th, in Montemayor to introduce wine culture to children and families.

The presentation of the 4th Children's Harvest, promoted by Cooperativa La Unión, took place this Wednesday in Montemayor, the guest municipality for this edition. The activity, aimed at introducing the wine tradition of Montilla-Moriles to the younger generation, will be held on Saturday, August 29th.
The event was held at the facilities of Cooperativa San Acacio in Montemayor. Participants included Valeriano Rosales, Councilor for Economic Development of the Montilla City Council; Antonio García, Mayor of Montemayor; and Francisco Fernández, manager of Cooperativa La Unión.
Saturday's event will begin at 10:00 AM in the cooperative's courtyard, located on Avda. de Italia, with participant reception and grape weighing. The program will include practical phases of the harvest and wine production, grape unloading in a specially installed wine press, children's activities, grape must tasting, and a traditional breakfast. As a new feature, older children will be able to participate in grape stomping.
Councilor Valeriano Rosales highlighted the Montilla City Council's support for this activity, considering it relevant to the Montilla-Moriles designation of origin and crucial for generational succession in the wine sector.
Rosales emphasized the importance of such initiatives in understanding the economic weight of viticulture, spanning from the primary sector to tourism, advocating for the complementarity between agricultural heritage and municipal tourism promotion policies.
Francisco Fernández, manager of Cooperativa La Unión, explained that the Children's Harvest aims to sow a lasting connection between children and the grape tradition, noting a growing interest in the activity.
The Mayor of Montemayor, Antonio García, thanked his municipality for being chosen as the guest and encouraged local families to participate, highlighting the historical and familial ties to the harvest and cooperative movement in the region.
The event will also feature a workshop by the Cultural Association Amigos de la Venencia and a tasting of the grape must produced. A commemorative diploma will be awarded at the end.
Registration is open until Thursday, August 27th, subject to availability. The activity is open to children of all ages, regardless of whether their families are cooperative members. A drawing contest inspired by the experience will also be held, with submissions due by September 10th.
