A popular jury has unanimously declared José Jurado Montilla, known as Dinamita Montilla, guilty of murdering a 21-year-old young man in Los Montes de Málaga. The verdict finds it fully proven that the accused approached the victim in an isolated area, shot him to kill, and finished him off from a distance of one to one and a half meters, before taking the few valuables he had in his backpack, estimated at around 200 euros. This verdict marks the first crime of the 'second wave' of killings by this serial offender, who already had four murders from the 1980s and faces another trial in Sevilla for the case of Ester Estepa.
Following the reading of the verdict, in which the jury unanimously opposed any clemency measures, the prosecution ratified their sentencing requests for the crimes of murder, robbery with violence, and illegal possession of weapons. 'He was fully aware,' stated the jury spokesperson. The prosecution is seeking a global sentence of 26 years in prison, while the private prosecution is requesting 31 years, demanding 25 years for the murder compared to the 20 years sought by the Public Prosecutor's Office. The defense has announced its intention to appeal the verdict.
It is considered proven that the body of David was found on August 29, 2022, in the area of Los Ciegos, in Los Montes de Málaga. According to the police investigation, the young man met the perpetrator, engaged in a brief conversation, and, after being surprised by José Jurado, was shot in the neck. He was then shot again in the head to finish him off. Afterward, the perpetrator turned the body over and opened the backpack to take any valuables, stealing items worth approximately 200 euros. His DNA was found on the zipper, a key piece of evidence.
Dinamita Montilla's history of killings dates back to 1987, when the Guardia Civil arrested him in Álora for the murder of two tourists camping in El Chorro. Two years prior, in November 1985, it was determined he had killed Francisco González, a resident of Puerto de la Torre. The only murder he publicly acknowledged, although in March 1987 another crime was attributed to him. Antonio Paniagua, former driver for singer Juanito Valderrama, was found almost carbonized in a rural dwelling in Campanillas; evidence led to him being identified as the fourth victim, as José Jurado was known at the time.
For these murders, he was sentenced to 123 years in prison, but the repeal of the 'Parot doctrine' prevented him from serving the four sentences separately. He served 28 years in prison and was released. He then disappeared, his whereabouts unknown. He received another four-year sentence and later became a TikTok star for his backpacking routes across Spain. His past remained unknown until the Homicide Unit of Málaga uncovered it during the investigation of a new murder. He is currently awaiting trial in Sevilla for the case of Ester Estepa, a crime he denies, claiming he left her alive in Gandía. The accused states he gave Estepa money and learned about the discovery of part of her body while imprisoned.
