The main objective of this initiative is to eradicate the practice of parking unauthorized vehicles at bus stops, which hinders the proper disembarkation of passengers and causes traffic problems. The measure particularly aims to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility and the elderly.
The Councilor for Mobility, Isabel González, explained that this measure responds to recurring complaints from users and drivers. "This uncivil act prevents the bus from stopping close to the sidewalk, making it difficult for passengers, especially the elderly with motor difficulties and those with reduced mobility, to get on or off safely," she stated.
The system, connected to the Local Police, identifies unauthorized vehicles and their license plates in real-time so that officers can issue the corresponding fines. The councilor added that, although fines are the "last resort," increasing demand has made deterrent measures necessary.
According to Local Police data, 160 fines were issued last year for improper parking at bus stops. The penalty for this offense amounts to 200 euros.
