The San José del Valle City Council has announced the basic rules that will come into effect on October 1, 2026, for the circulation of Personal Mobility Vehicles (VMPs), such as electric scooters. The objective is to promote safer and more responsible mobility within the municipality.
Among the requirements for electric scooter riders are the use of an approved helmet, riding one person per vehicle, the obligation to signal turns, and the need for reflective or luminous elements when visibility requires it.
The regulations explicitly prohibit riding on sidewalks and pedestrian areas, as well as using a mobile phone or headphones while riding. Consumption of alcohol or drugs is also forbidden, as is carrying passengers. The maximum speed allowed for VMPs is set at 25 km/h, and they cannot be ridden on roads with speed limits higher than 30 km/h.
The council calls for citizen cooperation to achieve safer, more responsible, and respectful mobility for all road users.
