The Councilor for Parks and Gardens, David Bazuelo, has announced the incorporation of a wood chipper valued at 33,000 euros into the municipal machinery fleet. This acquisition will significantly reduce the volume of pruning waste and enable the reuse of plant material through composting and mulching.
Since the beginning of the current municipal administration in 2023, the total investment in machinery and tools for the Parks and Gardens service has reached or exceeded 300,000 euros. According to Bazuelo, a key objective has been to equip municipal workers with the necessary resources to perform their duties more efficiently, compensating for existing staff shortages.
The 300,000 euro investment has been allocated to renewing and acquiring various machinery, including a lifting platform, a dumper, a mini-tractor, and other smaller tools and machines. Some of these machines previously incurred significant annual repair costs, which have now been replaced by new equipment.
The new wood chipper, for which 33,000 euros were allocated in the 2026 municipal budget, directly shreds waste generated from tree felling and pruning, considerably reducing the volume of material to be transported. Previously, eight to twelve truckloads of branches could be generated daily in parks and wooded areas. With this new machine, these trips will be significantly reduced, leading to savings in transport and allowing for the secondary use of the generated plant material.
The company awarded the supply contract is Mamsa, following a tender process and the development of technical specifications by municipal technicians.
Among the delegation's future objectives is the acquisition of a remote-controlled brush cutter robot, as well as new handheld brush cutters, lawnmowers, and a lawn aerator. This latter machine, which the City Council previously lacked, is necessary for maintaining certain lawn areas that, due to their age, require aeration, renovation, and renewal.
