The Casa de la Juventud of the City Council of Cádiz will be the venue this weekend for the XXI Friki Day. Organized by the Milenaria Cultural Association in collaboration with the Municipal Delegation of Youth and Childhood, the event will take place on Saturday, May 30th, from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and on Sunday, May 31st, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Admission is free until full capacity.
Since 2006, this gathering celebrates the anniversary of Star Wars and Towel Day, bringing together fans of all ages. This year's program includes video games, board games, cosplay, manga, Japanese culture, role-playing games, karaoke, and K-Pop, among other participatory activities.
Highlights of this edition include tournaments for board games such as Wyrmspan, Timeline, and Hitster Bingo with an anime theme, demonstrations of games from Editorial GDM and Maldito Games, craft workshops inspired by Japanese culture, and new video game tournaments on Nintendo Switch 2, like Mario Kart World and Mario Tennis Fever.
The video game area will feature consoles Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4, offering competitions in titles such as Tekken 8, EA Sports FC26, Street Fighter VI, Gran Turismo 7, and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. The offerings are complemented by a library of over 200 board games, Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition role-playing sessions, and collectible card games.
Attendees can also participate in workshops on Hama Beads, Omamori amulets, Japanese fans, foam lightsabers, or Susuwatari figures, as well as activities related to Japanese culture like the traditional Tanabata or Star Festival. The main stage will host karaoke, cosplay, and K-Pop contests, along with interactive challenges and themed quizzes.
The event will include an Artist's Alley for illustrators and artisans from the province, alongside specialized shops and publishers. The official poster is by the Cádiz-based artist Andrea Gaviño 'Riko'.
This edition has a strong solidarity focus. Through a raffle for the 'Gran Cesta Milenaria' (Great Millennial Basket), food donations for breakfast or monetary contributions will be collected for the association Calor en la Noche de Cádiz (Heat on the Night of Cádiz).
“"This new edition of Friki Day in Cádiz demonstrates that it is consolidating itself as one of the anticipated alternative culture and youth leisure events in the city."
