Rota, a municipality in the province of Cadiz, holds the title for the town with the most pizzerias per inhabitant globally, even surpassing Naples. With approximately 30 to 34 establishments for its roughly 30,000 residents, pizza has become a local gastronomic cornerstone. This deep-rooted popularity is partly attributed to the presence of the Rota Naval Base, which has introduced consumption habits from the American community, a large fan of this dish.
The history of pizza in Rota dates back to June 5, 1963, when Vicente Rinche di Lorenzo opened the first pizzeria. Since then, the offering has grown exponentially, leading to what some now call the 'Roteña pizza,' with its own distinctive characteristics.
“"For a free Roteña pizza, by you! Long live Roteña pizza! Rota City Council, the Pizza Fair is great, but this will get people talking"
Given the variety of options, the content creator known as Freskito (@freskitoygozoso on social media) has launched a proposal to create a ranking of the best pizzas in Rota. The initiative allows public participation through a link on his profile, where voters can specify the type of pizza (American/Italian or Roteña), choose the pizzeria, the specific pizza, and rate its flavor, size, and price, in addition to leaving comments about their experience.
The collected data will be updated weekly. Among the popular pizzerias mentioned are Slice Of New York Pizza, Pizzeria Villa de Rota, Pizzería Tratoría Pulcinella, Pizzería Gallego Rota, and Domino´s Pizza Rota.
