The socialist municipal group in the Cádiz City Council has announced it will present a motion at the next ordinary plenary session. The objective is to urge the Governing Team to comply with information requests concerning the cultural and recreational event Cádiz Romana, which took place between September 19 and 28 of last year, 2025.
Socialist councilor Rosario Tey highlighted the persistent lack of transparency, stating that nine months have passed since the first formal information request was filed by her group, without receiving any report. The request was officially reiterated twice more, in December 2025 and March 2026, yielding no response.
The motion demands the urgent delivery of a comprehensive report, broken down by budget items, detailing all direct and indirect expenses and investments derived from the organization of the event, which was part of the program Orgullos@s de nuestra historia. The need to understand the public procurement procedures and income received by collaborating institutions is emphasized.
The economic balance sheet must mandatorily include the total cost of the personnel chapter, specifically detailing the amount of overtime hours for municipal civil servants assigned to the event's development. Rosario Tey argued that "the principle of transparency and the right to access public information are fundamental pillars of any responsible local management," and that the opposition's role is to ensure "the utmost integrity, efficiency, and legality" in managing public resources.
The PSOE recalls that a similar lack of transparency occurred with the previous edition, Cádiz Fenicia, when the balance sheet was delayed for months and ultimately proved incomplete and inaccurate, omitting crucial items such as the cost overruns for extraordinary services and public staff overtime.
Rosario Tey concluded by clarifying that the PSOE does not question the promotion of cultural programs that highlight the city's rich history, but insists that this must always be "fully compatible with the demand for transparent management." They will also request that the balance sheet be published in its entirety on the City Council's Transparency Portal.
