The president of the Andalusian Film Academy participated in a meeting with audiovisual sector professionals at the UCA Film School in Cádiz. During the event, the importance of these gatherings for training and engaging with new generations of filmmakers was highlighted.
According to the Academy, the perception of a boom in Andalusian cinema is “overly triumphant,” as the current situation is more complex. It is noted that communities like the Canary Islands and the Basque Country have successfully attracted productions due to their incentive policies, leading to a significant decrease in filming in Andalusia, especially for local productions.
“"A medium-budget film, right now, a normal three-million-euro film, if we don't go to an area with incentives, is very difficult to shoot solely in Andalusia, very complicated."
The Academy has submitted proposals to Andalusian institutions to improve and compensate for the lack of incentives, seeking a national review of tax policies for the sector. It is emphasized that investment in cinema generates considerable economic returns, mobilizing various trades and sectors such as hospitality and catering.
Despite the challenges, the great talent and potential existing in Andalusia, which needs to be nurtured and supported, are underscored. Events like the South Festival in Cádiz are examples of the effort and the need to continue believing in the Andalusian audiovisual industry, attracting producers from all over Spain and even internationally.
