The city of Cádiz is preparing to host a new edition of the South Series Festival, an event that has established itself as a benchmark in the national series landscape. The fourth edition will take place between October 30 and November 4 of this year, and the fifth edition is planned for the spring of 2027, ensuring the festival's presence in the Andalusian capital for at least three more years.
Festival director Carles Montiel expressed his satisfaction with the renewed agreement with local and regional administrations, including the Junta de Andalucía, the Provincial Council of Cádiz, and the City Council of Cádiz. This institutional backing is crucial for the festival's growth and for projecting the city's audiovisual image internationally.
Montiel emphasized that the festival has never considered leaving Cádiz, calling the city its "best postcard" and its "institution." The event's continuity will allow for better planning and the attraction of private sponsorships, solidifying its market position.
The fourth edition will honor Ronan Bennett, a renowned screenwriter and resident of the city. The director highlighted the importance of attracting top-tier talent to enrich the experience for both local audiences and the festival's international dimension, thereby fostering audiovisual creation.
“"Without the people, making this festival is impossible. Without the city by the festival's side, it's impossible. People are what make the festival because this event is made for them, and they are the ones who should enjoy it."
Montiel also pointed out that the festival aims to actively involve the Cádiz community, offering a varied and attractive program. The presence of major international stars, as seen last year with Diane Kruger at La Caleta, contributes to the international projection of Cádiz.
Despite competition from other festivals in Madrid or Barcelona, the South Series Festival distinguishes itself through its local roots and international scope, attracting talent and promoting the industry. The event has successfully hosted world premieres from platforms such as HBO, Amazon, and Movistar, and the fourth edition is expected to continue this trend.
The director expressed confidence in the festival's future growth, anticipating an increase in popularity, business attraction capacity, and productions over the next four to five years, despite global competition.
