Cádiz Considers Opening a Second Dog Beach Amidst Current Success

The Cádiz City Council is evaluating new locations for a dog-friendly beach, building on the positive reception of the existing facility in Torregorda.

The Cádiz City Council is evaluating the creation of a new dog-friendly beach in the city, motivated by the positive reception and success of the designated area in Torregorda.

The Cádiz City Council aims to expand spaces for pets, particularly dogs, while prioritizing coexistence with residents. Consequently, the municipal government is studying the possibility of establishing another dog-friendly beach. Mayor Bruno García confirmed on Friday that the initiative stems from the "positive results" and "satisfaction" of pet owners frequenting the Torregorda dog beach, which he visited the previous day.
García highlighted the success of the Torregorda dog beach, an area already equipped with amenities like bins and umbrellas, with specific animal showers to be added soon. Although the mayor acknowledged that "there are still things to improve," the objective is to increase the number of dog-friendly spaces in the city. The possibility of designating another beach area for dogs is being considered, though the exact location and timeline for the next summer season remain undisclosed. This idea is partly driven by the current facility's distance from other parts of the city.
Potential locations under consideration include La Caleta, Santa María, or La Victoria. The option of reviving discussions about designating the area at the beginning of Punta de San Felipe, beneath the Calachica establishment, or the space near the Baluarte de San Roque and Santa María del Mar beach, a proposal previously put forth by Bruno García's administration, is also being explored. This initiative gains strength from the positive experience at the Torregorda beach, paving the way for a new canine space on the sand by the summer of 2027.
In addition to expanding dog beaches, the mayor announced that other city spaces are being assessed for conversion into dog parks, aligning with the goal of being "more expansive" in accommodating pets without "invading" human spaces. The plan to designate a garden in Plaza de España for canine use is confirmed, which Bruno García believes will enhance "citizen coexistence" in the area following its comprehensive redevelopment. Furthermore, two new dog parks are planned for the extramuros (outside the walls) area.
Regarding the proposal by Adelante Izquierda Gaditana to allow dogs on all beaches during limited hours, the mayor firmly stated that it "does not comply with regulations." Bruno García explained that regulations would require proper signage for the designated pet areas and noted that even on the Torregorda dog beach, human swimming would not be permitted.
