The 5-meter wide infrastructure, located near the Bajo Guadalquivir canal, will become a fundamental part of the Guadaíra Cycling Route. This project, promoted by the Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council, aims to integrate the city into the metropolitan cycling network.
The metal footbridge will facilitate the transit of bicycles and personal mobility vehicles thanks to its asphalt pavement. In a later phase, the connection is planned to extend to the El Palmetillo industrial park, adding 3 kilometers to the route.
“"The mayor of the city, Ana Isabel Jiménez, has highlighted the importance of Alcalá's bike lane “for environmental preservation and for being an added value element for the cultural ring that unites the old town, the Castle, the Natural Monument, for that reference and tourist attraction point that Alcalá is increasingly becoming”."
The comprehensive 9-kilometer bike lane project includes an LED lighting system powered by photovoltaic energy captured at rest areas. Additionally, 600 trees and over 2,000 shrubs will be planted, and the old railway tunnel under the Castle will be opened.
This initiative, funded by European funds through the Ministry of Transport, includes the installation of an irrigation network and the enhancement of environmental sustainability in the area.
