The event, named 'Jesús Gómez Challenge: Lap of Sancti Petri Castle', will commence at 9:00 AM and combines sport with solidarity and the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Sancti Petri Nautical Club. The event was announced by the deputy mayor, Jose Vera, the athlete himself Jesús Gómez, the representative of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, Rafael Carmona, and the representatives of the Sancti Petri Nautical Club, Juan Cepillo and Pedro Ramos.
Jose Vera highlighted the significance of the challenge, which extends beyond sports by merging the test with solidarity and the club's anniversary, all for the benefit of an African hospital. He invited the public to witness the event.
Jesús Gómez explained that the 10-kilometer route will take approximately three hours to complete. He expressed gratitude for the support from the Nautical Club and the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, conveying his enthusiasm for contributing to the cause. The course will begin at the Nautical Club's dock, circle the breakwater, go around the castle, and enter through the mouth, leaving the fortress to the left. Gómez extended an open invitation to anyone wishing to accompany him.
Rafael Carmona, from the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, thanked Gómez for his initiative, noting that Chiclana is a key location for the foundation and that their response to the request for collaboration was immediate. This project in Mozambique is the foundation's first initiative in Africa.
Juan Cepillo, representing the Nautical Club, recalled that the challenge proposal was made in December and was deemed an ideal event to celebrate the club's 50th anniversary. He thanked Gómez for involving them and encouraged club members to accompany the athlete with their boats.
