Demolition work at the San Fernando football stadium is set to begin this Monday, as confirmed by the mayor, Patricia Cavada, on social media. These works represent the first tangible progress in the construction of the new Isla de León stadium, a project with an investment of 12.6 million euros and an execution period of 16 months.
The mayor recently visited the Bahía Sur stadium accompanied by representatives from CD San Fernando 1940, including its president, Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, known as ‘Monchi’, to oversee safety, accessibility, and visibility matters prior to the demolition of both end stands.
Cavada expressed her enthusiasm on social media: “I can now tell you! This coming Monday, we begin the demolitions at the Iberoamericano 2010 stadium. With perseverance, work, enthusiasm, and management, everything is achievable. No matter how many obstacles we face, we must never stop believing. San Fernando deserves everything. Let's enjoy the process together now.”
As a consequence of the works, CD San Fernando 1940 has announced that the stadium's capacity will be limited to 3,200 seats this season. Several sections of the general stand, closest to the ends, will be temporarily unusable, affecting visibility.
The club has informed that the season ticket renewal and new membership process remains open, prioritizing applications on a first-come, first-served basis, both in person and online, until the limit of 3,200 members is reached. Those exceeding this number will not have guaranteed seating this season.
Stadium access will also be modified. Fans wishing to attend the first team's training sessions must use Gate 1, freeing up the marathon gate.
