The initiative is part of the activities to celebrate that Chiclana ceased to be a town and became a city by decree of King Alfonso XII, an event that marks its 150th anniversary on August 8th.
The musical selection, curated by musician and professor Jesús Rivera Romero, a member of the 150th Anniversary Commission, includes international pieces premiered in 1876 such as Wagner's ‘Götterdämmerung’, Brahms' ‘Symphony No. 1’, and Tchaikovsky's ‘Slavonic March’.
Coinciding with the birth of Manuel de Falla in 1876, the playlist also features some of his most representative works like ‘El amor brujo’ and ‘La vida breve’. The zarzuela ‘El barberillo de Lavapiés’ by Barbieri and ‘La verbena de La Paloma’ are also included.
Giuseppe Verdi's opera ‘Il trovatore’, inspired by the drama of Antonio García Gutiérrez from Chiclana, is also part of the selection. García Gutiérrez, who was 63 in 1876, was the director of the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid.
