With 45 years of experience, nearly 15,000 dives, and a strong association with National Geographic, San Félix will share his insights into the richness of the oceans and his expertise in conserving and restoring marine ecosystems. His presentation, scheduled for Thursday, October 29th, promises to transport attendees to extraordinary locations through his underwater photography and footage.
Since 2009, San Félix has been part of National Geographic's Pristine Seas project, participating in 58 expeditions worldwide. These missions have allowed him to document marine biodiversity, the threats it faces, and its significant capacity for recovery.
The explorer utilizes underwater photography and documentary filmmaking to bring the reality of the oceans to society, showcasing marine life's diversity, the consequences of degradation, and the potential of conservation efforts.
Beyond his international work, San Félix leads marine education and Posidonia seagrass restoration initiatives in the Mediterranean through the Vellmarí Association, highlighting the crucial role of these ecosystems in environmental balance.
His talk at the forum will blend personal experiences, striking visuals, and a realistic yet hopeful outlook on the ocean's future, based on the core idea that protecting and restoring the marine environment is an investment in human health and well-being.
San Félix will share the stage at the event with Sara García Alonso, a researcher at the CNIO and the first Spanish woman selected as a reserve astronaut by the European Space Agency (ESA). Both represent scientific exploration in different fields, from the ocean to space, within a forum dedicated to the Blue Economy.
The Blue Zone Forum InnovAzul 2026, organized by the Zona Franca de Cádiz and the University of Cádiz, will be held at the Palacio de Congresos in Cádiz. The event will gather scientific, business, technological, and institutional experts to discuss the sustainable use of marine resources and the development of sea-related economic activities, under the theme “Proyectando en azul” (Projecting in Blue).
The forum will feature conferences, debate panels, and networking activities, as part of the Blue Economy initiatives promoted by the Zona Franca de Cádiz and the University of Cádiz, including Incubazul and Blue Core.
The event will coincide with the XXIX Conference of Ibero-American Free Trade Zones, facilitating the convergence of international business and institutional representatives.
