Following official notification from the Regional Ministry of Health, Presidency, and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía, the Bujalance City Council has informed residents about the presence of mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus. These insects were detected in surveillance traps placed more than 1.5 kilometers from the urban area.
The risk of human infection remains at a moderate level. The Council has activated the corresponding preventive control measures throughout the municipal area. The Territorial Delegation of Health and Consumption has communicated the results of the entomological surveillance system, requesting the public to remain calm and cooperate in community prevention efforts, as the virus was located far from populated zones.
The Bujalance City Council is adapting and intensifying the work of the Municipal Surveillance and Control Plan. This includes reinforcing diagnostics in urban areas, parks, frequented rural environments, and stagnant water points within the protection perimeter.
Health authorities advise the public to adopt measures to avoid bites and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds. They recommend applying insect repellents, wearing light-colored long-sleeved clothing and long trousers, and avoiding perfumes with intense odors. Extra precautions are advised during dawn and dusk.
In homes, fields, and private areas, it is urged to keep mosquito nets installed and closed on doors and windows, turn off unnecessary lights, and prevent any accumulation of stagnant water. It is recommended to frequently empty plant pot saucers, buckets, toys, and other household containers, as well as ensure the proper maintenance of cisterns, swimming pools, and washbasins.
