The highest authority in Adamuz has broken his silence to denounce what he considers a "political exploitation" of the event, in which 46 people lost their lives. This reaction comes after the president and candidate for re-election, Juanma Moreno Bonilla, brought up the issue to demand explanations from the Central Government.
Through a statement published on social media, the mayor expressed his displeasure, noting that he "did not expect this political use of something so painful." He decided to share his personal experience to highlight the deficiencies that, according to his testimony, occurred on the night of the incident.
The mayor's main complaint focuses on the delay of rescue services. According to his account, although the accident happened much earlier, by 9:30 PM most of the injured were still without organized medical attention. He asserts that for nearly two hours, the residents of Adamuz, without specific training, were the ones who assisted the travelers.
“"One hour after the accident, only eight ambulances had arrived."
The emergency response team did not take effective control or set up the field hospital until after 10:00 PM. During that period of uncertainty, the mayor maintains that "no one was in charge there" and they had to manage as best they could.
A similar situation was described at the Municipal Hall, where, according to the mayor, no official health device was mobilized until 11:30 PM. The only professionals present during that interval were nurses, doctors, and home care assistants from Adamuz who volunteered.
For the mayor, the subsequent coordination was excellent, but he emphasizes that this did not materialize until two hours after the impact. He concluded his message by stating that he will not allow the accident to be used for electoral purposes, especially by those who, according to him, perfectly know where the failures occurred that night.
