The workers at the El Toyo golf course in Almería have taken a new step in their labor dispute by filing a preliminary investigation request with the Social Courts. The aim is to obtain documentation they deem essential to clarify the labor and salary conditions applied since the City Council took over the management of the facilities.
The staff complain that for over a decade, they have been subjected to successive subrogations between different contracting companies without their real seniority being recognized or significant salary improvements being made. According to their statements, their remuneration has remained close to the minimum interprofessional wage, despite performing key functions in a sports facility of great importance to the city, as evidenced by the Almería City Championship.
After a prior conciliation hearing failed, the employees are now seeking for the courts to analyze both the accumulated salary claims and the labor organization model. "It is necessary for the City Council and the Municipal Company Almería Turística (EMAT) to provide through a court order what they have not willingly made available to the workers," state the legal representatives of the staff.
The judicial request includes the demand for the agreement terminating the old Alborán Golf concession, the agreements for the management of the course, and the file through which EMAT assumed its administration. Furthermore, they request the delivery of contracts signed with the various companies that have operated the Caddie Master service in recent years.
The workers recall their role as the first point of contact for the thousands of players who visit Alborán Golf annually, emphasizing that this strategic importance has never translated into improved working conditions. They highlight that the situation is particularly striking as the Almería City Council publicly boasts about the golf course's good economic and occupancy results, while the employees who make the daily operation possible continue to await answers to a problem they have been facing for over fourteen years.
